ENGLISH 8 OUTLINE
Welcome to English 8!! Starting secondary school is both exciting and scary at the same time. English 8 covers a broad range of literary genres to introduce students to new ways of analyzing literature. Through the novels, poems, short stories, and plays that the class reads, students will develop skills in a number of different ways.
English 8 is divided into 6-7 units which covers a broad range of literary genres. Titles listed below are tentative.
Shakespeare play – A Midsummer’s Night Dream
Poetry
Novels (2-3) – The Outsiders, Freak the Mighty, Stargirl
Short Stories
Self-Discovery
Over the course of the year, students will develop skills in the following areas:
- writing and grammar
- oral presentations
- group and class discussions
- writing process: pre-writing, drafting, revision, editing, and proof-reading
- paragraph and essay writing – home and in-class
- literary analysis and interpretation
- identifying different literary genres
